Visually, this movie was elegant and captivating for the type of story it is touching on. Two old friends who have seen or spoken in years reunited over unfortunate circumstances. It touches heavily on the notion of death and the acceptance of it with a very human feeling. Some story bits seemed out of place such as the introduction of a shared (not necessarily at the same time) lover who didn't really seem needed in the plot. The plot points revolving around the story of a family member and flashes of the last dont add to the film at all in my opinion, it easily could have been left out for the most part.
I totally agree with going out the way you want and easily think in certain circumstances I would do the same thing.
Martha's treatment of Ingrid at times was totally unfair considering what she was doing for her but I get it, death and accepting it isn't an easy thing to cope with.
Overall I love how the movie touched on very real human emotions and how fucked up the world (especially in the United States) is.
Great performances by Moore and Swinton with great direction by Almodóvar
** Could have done without all the lines references the title
3.5/5
