Cemetery Kids Don’t Die follows a group of 4 kids who play in a fantasy world on a device called Dreamwave. Two of them are siblings, an older brother (Pik) and his younger sister (Birdie). Constrained to what is supposed to be an eight-hour time frame of playing while being asleep, disaster strikes one night when the four-some are playing and something mysteriously happens to Pik. He suffers what is believed to be a stroke, but the catch is, he’s still logged in online on the Dreamwave device even though it is no longer physically connected to him. Determined to find out what happened to her brother, Birdie convinces her two friends Enid and Wilson to log back in and search through the levels of Nightmare Cemetery to find Pik.

Disaster strikes again and again as they progress through the game finding more clues and horrors along the way. It’s a perilous journey for these three characters. Their personal nightmares are brought to life, and they have two choices; power through to find Pik or give up. It’s a struggle for them all but by the end it’s a happy story. Or is it? The book ends in a way that suggests it could but also gives the feeling that it may not be true. To me, it’s a fitting end but also leaves the opportunity for more to come. I personally think a follow up could diminish the work that has already been done but I have faith that Zac and Daniel could expand upon the mythos to create a nice continuation, I guess only time will tell.

This is a typical Zac Thompson horror book which is paired with art by Daniel Irizarri that only makes this book better by a hundred-fold. Zac doesn’t tend to miss in his writing, and this book shows just that. I’m not to familiar with Daniels’ work but I’ll be keeping an eye on him for now on.

I read the first two issues in single copy format but wanted to thank AIPT comics for the chance to read the full story via a giveaway on social media, I would’ve bought the trade either way though as I’m a huge fan Zac’s work.
